Student Legal Assistance Committee

In Spring of 2020, the Graduate Student Senate convened to understand and address the gap between access to legal assistance within the graduate community at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. At that time, an ad hoc committee was created to research, understand, and assist graduate students with access to conventional legal assistance.

Understanding resources are finite, the Student Legal Assistance Committee assists Graduate Students facing legal complexities by cultivating access to legal resources.  The Graduate Student Senate’s Student Legal Assistance Committee partnered with Justice Bridge, the UMass Law incubator that focuses on furthering access to justice.  This Committee allows students the access to a network of legal professionals whose deep and enduring commitment is that of breaking the barriers of the legal system.

The Committee was led by:

  • Vladeric Belizaire, Co-Chair, School of Law
  • Shareefah Taylor, Co-Chair, School of Law
  • Enoch Allotey, GSS Senator, School of Law
  • Daniel J. Figueroa, GSS Senator, School of Law
  • Ricardo Serrano, GSS Press, Communications, and Multimedia, School of Law
  • Emma Young, GSS Senator, College of Visual & Performing Arts
  • Len Zandrow, Esq., Director, Justice Bridge
